LORMAN, Miss.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs opened their 2009 season with an 8-1 win at Division I Alcorn State Friday afternoon, with freshman forward
Lauren Froelich (Germantown, Tenn., Germantown HS) turning in a four-goal effort to lead the way.
Froelich started the scoring quickly, putting the Lady Bucs (1-0) on the board in the fourth minute, and she doubled the lead in the seventh minute.
Jessica Salgado scored for Alcorn State (0-1) in the 11th minute, and neither team found the net the rest of the first half. The Lady Bucs put it out of reach quickly in the second half.
Caitlyn Donegan (Thibodaux, La./E.D. White HS) scored her first CBU goal in the 57th minute, opening the floodgates again. Over the next 26 minutes, the Lady Bucs scored five more goals, including two from Froelich and one each from
Sarah Catherine Ryan (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy),
Marie Kvarnlof (Östersund, Sweden/Wargentins School), and
Sydney Homewood (Oakville, Ontario/Iroquois Ridge HS).
Libby Hake (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS) made seven saves in 75 minutes in goal, while
Christina Barone (Phoenix, Ariz./Cactus Shadows HS) finished the game with 15 scoreless minutes.
The Lady Bucs travel to Conway, Ark., to take on Central Baptist Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m.
