BOCA RATON, Fla.—Senior forward
Zach Tubinis (Memphis, Tenn., Houston HS) scored two goals just 18 seconds apart to lead the Christian Brothers University Bucs to a 2-1 win over Barry Friday afternoon in the first game of the Embassy Suites Classic at Lynn.
The Bucs (2-3-1), who had been shut out three straight games, snapped a scoreless streak of over 330 minutes when Tubinis scored off an assist from
Gordon Blum (Houma, La./Vanderbilt Catholic HS). Just 18 seconds later,
Clark Bradford (Blackburn, England/Ribblesdale HS) lobbed a pass over the Barry defense to put Tubinis in a 1-on-1 with keeper Johnny Rodrigues, and he scored to put the Bucs in front 2-0.
In the 12th minute, Barry (2-2-1) cut the margin to one as Andres Perez scored off a Sascha Koettig cross. After the early flurry of scoring, the defenses settled in as the Bucs held on for the victory.
Barry out-shot the Bucs 23-6 as CBU goalkeeper
Harrison Cheatham (Franklin, Tenn./Centennial HS) made 10 saves.
The Bucs take on No. 6 Lynn Sunday at 11 a.m. Central in the final day of the Embassy Suites Classic.
