Michelle Hein had seven aces and 16 kills, both career highs, but the Lady Bucs dropped a five-set match with West Alabama Saturday night after rallying past Ouachita Baptist in five sets earlier.
MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs split a pair of five-set matches Saturday, defeating Ouachita Baptist in a Gulf South Conference West Division match before losing to West Alabama in a nonconference tilt.

The Lady Bucs (12-8, 1-1 GSC West) fell behind quickly against Ouachita Baptist (6-10, 0-2), dropping the first two sets 25-15 and 25-19.  The Lady Bucs rallied to win the third set 25-19 and knotted the match with a 25-16 win in the fourth set.  They scored four straight points, sparked by a pair of Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) aces to pull away for a 15-10 win in the clincher.

Logan Westphal (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) pounded 20 kills and hit .417 to lead the offense, while Hanna Orendorff (Renton, Wash./Liberty HS) added 13 kills while hitting .229.  Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) had a team-high 16 digs, leading three Lady Bucs in double figures.  Michelle Hein (Tempe, Ariz./Corona del Sol HS) added 14, while Nolan collected 12.  Kelsey Green (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) collected 48 assists.

In the nightcap, Hein turned in one of the top performances of her career, but the Lady Bucs dropped a back-and-forth five-set match to GSC East leaster West Alabama (16-5).

The Lady Bucs claimed a 25-21 win in the first set, but UWA tied it with a 25-22 win in a second set that featured 14 ties and nine lead changes.  CBU claimed another 25-21 win in set three, but UWA answered with a 25-17 win in the fourth set and a 15-13 victory in the fifth.  The match saw a total of 30 ties and 16 lead changes.

Hein posted career-highs of 16 kills and seven aces for the Lady Bucs.  Westphal added 14 more kills.  Doder collected a team-best 15 digs, while Green added 11 to her 41 assists.

The Lady Bucs return to action Thursday night at Harding at 7 p.m. before returning home Saturday at 1 p.m. against Southern Arkansas.
