Lady Bucs Rally For 65-62 Win Over OBU

Tameka Wooten scored a game-high 23 points to lead the Lady Bucs to a 65-62 come-from-behind win over Ouachita Baptist Thursday night at Canale Arena.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-scored visiting Ouachita Baptist 34-14 over the final 12:16 as they rallied for a 65-62 win to even their Gulf South Conference West Division record at 1-1.

The Lady Tigers (8-7, 0-2 GSC West) had built a 48-31 lead with a 26-9 run capped by a pair of Gabby Coleman free throws, giving Ouachita a 48-31 lead with 12:58 remaining.  After the Lady Bucs (10-4, 1-1) committed a turnover on the next possession, their defense clamped down.

In OBU's final 25 possessions, the Lady Bucs forced 12 turnovers and held Ouachita to 2-of-14 shooting from the floor.  Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) started the run with a three-point play, and three straight layups from Wooten and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) trimmed the margin to 48-40 with 9:59 remaining.  OBU held the lead between seven and nine points for the next five minutes, taking a 60-51 advantage on a pair of Domino Miller free throws with 4:20 remaining.

The Lady Bucs would out-score OBU 14-2 over the final 4:06 as they rallied for the victory, making 10 of 12 free throws down the stretch.  Ellis also scored on a critical put-back with 33.4 seconds remaining to put the Lady Bucs up 64-60.

Wooten scored a game-high 23 to go with five rebounds, four assists, and four steals to pace the Lady Bucs, while Ellis logged her fifth double-double of the season with 15 points and 14 rebounds to go with five blocks.  Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) had 12 points and nine rebounds, while Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) added 10 points.

Gabby Coleman led the Lady Tigers with 19 points, while A'Laeshia Adams had 14.  Beulah Osueke added 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds.

The Lady Bucs held OBU to just 26.9 percent (18-of-67) from the floor, including 15 percent (3-of-20) from three-point range, but OBU held a commanding 54-35 edge in rebounds, including a 28-10 margin on offensive rebounds.  The Lady Bucs shot 42.3 percent (22-of-52) for the game and forced 25 OBU turnovers while committing 22.

The Lady Bucs hit the road for the first of two straight road games Saturday as they visit No. 2 Delta State at 4 p.m.  They take on Harding next Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before coming home Saturday, Jan. 23, to host Henderson State at 2 p.m.
