No. 2 Lady Statesmen Pull Away From Lady Bucs 72-45

Jasmine Ellis scored 14 points, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 72-45 decision at No.2 Delta State Saturday night.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.—No. 2 Delta State opened the second half with a 12-4 run as they pulled away to a 72-45 victory over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to remain in first place in the Gulf South Conference West Division.

The Lady Statesmen (14-0, 3-0 GSC West) never trailed in the first half after scoring the game's first eight points.  The Lady Bucs (10-5, 1-2) kept the lead within striking distance throughout the first half, never trailing by more than 11.

Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) and Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) scored 14 points each to lead the Lady Bucs.

Bug Cooper led the Lady Statesmen with 16 points and nine assists.  Veronica Walker had 13 points, while Jasmyne Sanders added 10.

The Lady Bucs shot just 37.8 percent (17-of-45) from the floor, including 12.5 percent (2-of-16) from three-point range.  The Lady Statesmen, who out-rebounded CBU 40-19, shot 49.1 percent (27-of-55) from the floor.

The Lady Bucs return to the court Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. as they visit Harding.  Their next home game is next Saturday at 2 p.m. against Henderson State.
