Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Arkansas-Monticello outscored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 29-9 over the final 13:05 as they pulled away to a 69-44 win in the Gulf South Conference West Division opener for both teams Saturday at Canale Arena.
The Cotton Blossoms (7-6, 1-0 GSC West) led nearly the whole way, but they never led by more than eight until back-to-back Ambra Smith baskets started the decisive 29-9 run. The Lady Bucs (9-4, 0-1) cut the lead back to seven on a
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) basket, but UAM outscored the Lady Bucs 23-5 the rest of the way.
Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) led the Lady Bucs with 16 points, while DeBose added 12.
Emili Slamons and Nykita Gordon scored 13 each to lead the Cotton Blossoms, while Monica Perkins-Miller grabbed a game-high 14 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs shot just 29.2 percent (14-of-48) from the floor, including 18.8 percent (3-of-16) from three-point range. The Cotton Blossoms were 44.8 percent (26-of-58) from the floor and held a commandign 49-22 edge on the boards, including a 15-5 edge in offensive boards. THe Lady Bucs forced 18 turnovers while committing 15.
The Lady Bucs return to the court Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host 2009 NCAA Division II South Regional finalist Ouachita Baptist.
