MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs celebrated Senior Day Sunday afternoon with a 1-0 win over West Georgia to extend their winning streak to four games and move into a tie for third place in the Gulf South Conference standings with one game left.
The Lady Bucs (11-4, 4-2 GSC) scored the game's only goal in the 61st minute, after each team had hit the post early in the second half.
Mallory Geraci (New Orleans, La./Mount Carmel Academy) fired a shot from the left side that UWG (5-11-2, 1-5-1) keeper Patricia Logsdon saved, but
Lauren Quinones (Melbourne, Fla./West Shore HS) pounced on the rebound and put the ball in the net for the only goal.
The Wolves out-shot the Lady Bucs 15-9, including a 9-4 lead in shots on goal, but CBU keepers
Victoria Bujalski (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons HS) and
Libby Hake (Fort Wayne, Ind./Canterbury HS) made nine saves to earn the Lady Bucs' eighth clean sheet of the season.
The Lady Bucs had already clinched a berth in next week's GSC Tournament in Pensacola, Fla. They will battle Harding for the No. 3 seed Tuesday night at 5 p.m. in the makeup game from last Sunday's rainout. The winner will earn the third seed and play North Alabama next Friday, while the loser faced top-seeded West Florida.
Prior to kickoff, the Lady Bucs honored seniors
Marie Kvarnlof (Östersund, Sweden/Wargentins School),
Roma Rozanska (Edmonton, Alberta/Archbishop O'Leary HS),
Samantha De Melo (Langley, B.C./Langley Secondary School), and
Victoria Bujalski (Fort Lauderdale, Fla./Cardinal Gibbons HS).
