Lady Bucs Edge Wolves 56-53

Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs edged visiting West Georgia 56-53 Monday night to improve to 2-0 on the young season.

The game was back-and-forth throughout with 10 ties, six lead changes, and no lead of more than seven points.  The Lady Bucs (2-0) had opened up a 47-40 lead with 8:31 remaining on a fastbreak layup by Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS), but the Wolves (1-1) answered with seven straight to knot the game on a Monica Williams layup with 5:18 remaining.

Johnson juked around two defenders and drove for a layup on the ensuing possession to put the Lady Bucs in front for good.  A Caitlin House (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) jumper and five free throws helped the Lady Bucs hold on for the win as UWG's halfcourt heave at the buzzer missed.

House dominated again, with 24 points and 12 rebounds for her second straight double-double.  Johnson scored 14 points, while Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) had nine points and 12 rebounds.

Shunice Hardy led UWG with 13, and Williams scored 12.

The Lady Bucs out-rebounded UWG 47-42, but they committed 20 turnovers to the Wolves' 17.  Both teams struggled to score, with the Lady Bucs shooting 35.4 percent (17-of-48) and the Wolves shooting just 29.6 percent (21-of-71).  The Lady Bucs were 20-of-36 (55.6 percent) at the line to UWG's 6-of-10 (60 percent).

The Lady Bucs hit the road Wednesday night at 5 p.m. for the first road game of the Sarah Condra era as they visit Lane.  Their next home game is set for Saturday at 2 p.m. against Mid-Continent.
