DeBose Sets Blocks Record in 58-52 Win

Sheena DeBose blocked a school-record eight shots in the Lady Bucs' 58-52 win over Mid-Continent Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena. She also scored nine points with 13 rebounds and four steals.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University senior forward Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss., Rosa Fort HS) set a new school record with eight blocked shots in the Lady Bucs' 58-52 win over Mid-Continent Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

Early on, the Lady Bucs (4-0) appeared on their way to a double-digit win, jumping out to a 13-2 lead in the first six minutes and building as much as a 13-point lead at 28-15 on a Marissa Stewart (Atlanta, Ga./Arlington Christian HS) three-pointer with 4:40 remaining in the first half.

After Stewart's three-pointer, the Cougars went on a 20-3 run to take a 35-31 lead on a Heather George jumper with 15:45 remaining.  The Lady Bucs fought back to a tie game eventually on a free throw and a three-pointer by Ty Harris (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS), and they took the lead for good when a Stewart fastbreak layup sparked a 6-0 burst.  Three straight three-pointers from Briley Milfeld (Farmington, Mo./Farmington HS), Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS), and Stewart stretched the lead to 57-46 with 3:42 remaining, and the margin was never less than six points again.

DeBose added nine points, 13 rebounds, and four steals to her school-record eight blocks in 31 minutes.  Stewart scored a game-high 15, while Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) had eight points, nine rebounds, and four assists.  CBU's leading scorer, Caitlin House (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS), played four scoreless minutes before leaving the game with an apparent hand injury.

Shanice Martin and Tiffany Payton scored 10 each for the Cougars, who played Saturday's game as an exhibition contest.

Both teams struggled from the floor, with the Lady Bucs shooting 31 percent (18-of-58) to the Cougars' 27 percent (20-of-74).  The Lady Bucs made up ground in three-point shooting, making 40.9 percent (9-of-22) to the Cougars' 15.4 percent (4-of-26), and they were 52 percent (13-of-25) at the free throw line compared to Mid-Continent's 57.1 percent (8-of-14).

The Lady Bucs out-rebounded the Cougars 53-52, recording the fifth-highest single-game rebound total in school history.  They committed 18 turnovers while forcing 15.

The Lady Bucs return to the court Tuesday night at 5 p.m. as they host Lambuth.
