Lady Bucs' Rally Stuns No. 7 Golden Suns 78-72

Briley Milfeld scored a career-high 15 points to help the Lady Bucs rally from a 15-point deficit and stun previously unbeaten No. 7 Arkansas Tech 78-72.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs played their best half of the season in the second half against No. 7 Arkansas Tech Monday night, rallying from a 13-point deficit to hand the Golden Suns their first loss of the season, 78-72, in Gulf South Conference West Division play at Canale Arena.

After a back-and-forth first 14 minutes, the Golden Suns (18-1, 5-1 GSC West) used a 20-5 run extending to the first possession of the second half to open a 40-25 lead, but the Lady Bucs (14-5, 5-2) out-scored ATU 53-32 the rest of the way for the victory.

Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored eight straight points to start the run, and a Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) three-pointer pulled the Lady Bucs within four points with 17:10 remaining.  After a Laura Beth Anderson basket, the Lady Bucs made four straight free throws after a shooting foul and a technical, pulling within a 42-40 margin with 16:11 remaining.

The Lady Bucs took their first lead of the second half with 10:22 remaining as Briley Milfeld (Farmington, Mo./Farmington HS) knocked down the first of two big second-half three-pointers.  After a Shaquilah Davis jumper, back-to-back threes by Wooten put the Lady Bucs ahead for good.  Milfeld's second three-pointer, as the shot clock expired with 3:22 to play, gave the Lady Bucs a 70-66 lead, and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) followed with a basket the next possession to extend the lead to six.

After ATU had cut the lead back to 72-69, the Lady Bucs called timeout with 42 seconds remaining and just five seconds on the shot clock.  Wooten found DeBose on the right block with the inbounds pass, and she scored a layup to push the lead to five, and ATU never came closer than five again.

DeBose and Wooten scored game-highs of 19 points each, and Wooten added eight assists and four steals.  Milfeld scored 12 of her career-high 15 points in the second half, and Ellis scored 12 points with 13 rebounds and a block.

Natalia Santos led ATU with 17 points.  Katie Horsman scored 16, while Laura Beth Anderson added 15.  Jenny Vining, the GSC's top scorer at 20.4 ppg, scored 11.

The Lady Bucs shot a blistering 60.7 percent (17-of-28) in the second half, including 41.7 percent (5-of-12) from three-point range as they posted a season-high 53 points in the second half.  For the game, they shot 43.9 percent (25-of-57) from the floor and 72.4 percent (21-of-29) at the free throw line.  The Golden Suns shot 40.3 percent (27-of-67) overall and 63.2 percent (12-of-19) from the stripe.

The Lady Bucs out-rebounded ATU 39-38, but they committed 19 turnovers to the Golden Suns' 15.

The Lady Bucs hit the road Thursday night to open the second half of the GSC West schedule as they take on Arkansas-Monticello at 5:30 p.m.
