Box Score MEMPHIS—No. 12 Delta State out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 41-17 in the first half as they pulled away quickly to an 83-46 win, remaining in second place in the Gulf South Conference West Division.
The Lady Statesmen (19-2, 8-2 GSC West) went on a 10-0 run over a three-minute stretch early in the game, with star forward Veronica Walker scoring six points during the burst, which put DSU ahead 12-3 with 15:49 remaining in the first half. The Lady Bucs (14-8, 5-5) never came closer than seven as DSU built their lead to as many as 39 points.
Walker logged game-highs of 25 points and 11 rebounds as she went 10-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-6 at the free throw line. Shameka Russell scored 15 points with eight rebounds, and Bug Cooper scored 10 points with eight assists.
Briley Milfeld (Farmington, Mo./Farmington HS) led the Lady Bucs with 11 points, while
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) scored 10 with four steals before fouling out in 23 minutes.
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) added nine points in 17 minutes off the bench.
DSU shot 53.4 percent (31-of-58) from the floor to the Lady Bucs' 26.9 percent (14-of-52). With
Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS), the top rebounder in the GSC, out due to an ankle injury, DSU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 46-24.
The Lady Bucs will try to snap their three-game skid Tuesday night at 5 p.m. as they host Rust in their final non-conference game.
