HSU Rallies Past Lady Bucs at FT Line

Katie Hume scored 15 points, but the Lady Bucs blew a 20-point lead as they lost 86-77 Saturday at Henderson State.
Box Score ARKADELPHIA, Ark.—Host Henderson State used 22 free throws in the final 18 minutes as they rallied from a 52-32 deficit to win 86-77 over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday night in a battle for fourth place in the Gulf South Conference West Division.

The Lady Bucs (14-10, 5-7 GSC West) dominated the first half, using a 17-4 run late in the half to pull away to a 45-26 lead on a Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) three-pointer with 1:09 remaining in the half.  They pushed the lead to an even 20 points on a Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) put-back with 18:36 remaining, giving CBU a 52-32 cushion.

Over the last 18 minutes, HSU (15-12, 6-6) made 22 of 27 free throws, and they held the Lady Bucs to 9-of-30 from the field with 11 turnovers.  They went on a 13-0 run to cut the lead back to single digits at 52-45 on an Asaiah Lowe basket with 13:23 remaining.

The Lady Bucs held a narrow lead until a Nyesha Adams three-point play put the Lady Reddies ahead 70-69 with 4:34 remaining.  Adams' three-point play was part of a 16-2 run that gave HSU an 81-71 lead with 1:35 remaining.

DeBose led the Lady Bucs with 21 points and 10 rebounds.  Katie Hume (Memphis, Tenn./Evangelical Christian School) scored 15, making four three-pointers.  Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) also logged a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds, while Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) scored 13.

Jazmine Ellis scored 13 of her team-high 28 points at the free throw line for HSU, matching CBU's team total of 17 free throw attempts.  Christina Hall scored 23, while Malorie Marshall added 12.

For the game, the Lady Reddies were 36-of-47 (76.6 percent) at the free throw line, while the Lady Bucs were 15-of-17 (88.2 percent).

Overall, the Lady Bucs shot 44.4 percent (28-of-63) to the Lady Reddies' 36.2 percent (21-of-58).  The Lady Bucs out-rebounded HSU 45-35, but HSU forced 21 turnovers while committing nine.

The Lady Bucs will try to snap their five-game skid Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they celebrate Senior Night against Southern Arkansas.
