Box Score MONTICELLO, Ark.—Host Arkansas-Monticello shot a season-best 52.4 percent from three-point range and out-rebounded the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 43-25 on their way to a 77-52 Gulf South Conference West Division win over CBU Thursday night.
The Cotton Blossoms (9-10, 3-4 GSC West) went on an 11-0 run in just 86 seconds early in the game, making three straight three-pointers to take a big early lead they would never relinquish.
After the Lady Bucs (14-6, 5-3) had closed the lead to 14-11 on a
Tameka Wooten (Cordova, Tenn./Cordova HS) fast-break layup with 12:37 remaining, UAM went on an 18-4 run to expand the lead to 32-15 on a Yelitza Rivera jumper with 3:56 remaining in the half. The Lady Bucs never came closer than 15 points again.
Wooten and
Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) led the Lady Bucs with 17 points each, and freshman
Marissa Stewart (Atlanta, Ga./Arlington Christian HS) turned in a strong overall performance with eight points, six rebounds, four steals, and three assists.
Chelsea Johnson led UAM with 15 points, making 5-of-7 from three-point range. Erica Williams scored 14, while Rivera added 12.
UAM, which entered the game shooting just 26.5 percent from three-point range, made their first four of the night and made 7-of-11 in the first half to build the big lead. They finished the game 44.6 percent (29-of-65) overall, while the Lady Bucs shot 42 percent (21-of-50) from the floor. CBU was 14.3 percent (2-of-14) from three-point range.
UAM out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 43-25, including an 18-7 edge in offensive boards. The Lady Bucs committed 22 turnovers to the Cotton Blossoms' 21.
The Lady Bucs complete their non-conference schedule Monday night at 5 p.m. as they host Rust. They return to GSC West play next Thursday at Ouachita Baptist.
