No. 4 Golden Suns Pull Away From Lady Bucs 88-67

Jessica Green scored a career-high 18 points as the Lady Bucs lost 88-67 to No. 4 Arkansas Tech Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—No. 4 Arkansas Tech shot 76.2 percent in the second half as they pulled away for an 88-67 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night at Canale Arena.

The Golden Suns (13-1, 2-0 GSC West) went on a 12-0 run over a three-minute stretch early in the game to take the lead for good.  The Lady Bucs (7-7, 0-2) stayed within striking distance throughout the first half, never allowing ATU to lead by more than 10.

After the Lady Bucs trimmed a 39-31 halftime lead back to 44-39 on a Casey Gregory (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumper with 16:45 remaining, the Golden Suns answered with a 15-3 run to build a 59-42 lead on a Katie Horsmann layup with 10:21 remaining.  The Lady Bucs could come no closer than 14 points again.

Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) led the Lady Bucs with a career-high 18 points to go with three assists.  Caitlin House (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) had 16 points with six steals, and Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) added 11 points, seven assists, and three steals.

Natalia Santos and Jessica Weatherford scored 21 each for the Golden Suns, while Shaquilah Davis tacked on 14.  Laura Beth Anderson dished out a game-high 11 assists.

The Golden Suns were 16-of-21 in the second half, pushing their shooting percentage for the game to 57.9 percent (33-of-57) overall.  They held the Lady Bucs to 37.1 percent (23-of-62) overall, but the Lady Bucs shot 38.7 percent (12-of-31) from three-point range.  ATU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 38-26, and both teams committed 19 turnovers.

The Lady Bucs will try to snap their two-game skid Saturday at 2 p.m. when they visit Henderson State.
