Lady Bisons Edge Lady Bucs 55-48

Normanique Johnson scored 13 points, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 55-48 decision to Harding Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs blocked 11 shots and held visiting Harding to 30 percent from the floor, but Harding held off the Lady Bucs 55-48 in a Gulf South Conference West Division game that saw neither team build a lead of more than eight points.

The Lady Bucs (7-10, 0-5 GSC West) threatened to take control early, using a 10-0 run capped by a Caitlin House (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) fastbreak layup to claim a 12-6 lead with 14:33 remaining in the first half.  After Harding (12-4, 3-1) steadily erased the lead, tying the gmae back up at 18, the Lady Bucs went on another 6-0 run with two House layups and a Sheena DeBose (Tunica, Miss./Rosa Fort HS) score, but an 11-2 run to end the first half put the Lady Bisons back in front 29-26 at halftime.

The Lady Bisons built their biggest lead of the game with an 8-2 run capped by a Cherilyn McMenamy triple with 7:50 remaining as they led 45-37.  The Lady Bucs could not cut the lead back below four points the rest of the way.

House led the way with 17 points, 11 rebounds, four blocks, and four steals.  Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) scored 13, while DeBose added 12 points, eight rebounds, and three blocks.  Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) added a career-high four blocked shots as the Lady Bucs' team total of 11 tied for the second-most in a game in school history, one off the record set against Ouachita Baptist in 2006.

Bailey St. Clair led Harding with 10 points, and Sierra Rollins added eight points and 10 rebounds.

Both teams struggled from the floor, with the Lady Bucs shooting 38.3 percent (18-of-47) overall and just 12.5 percent (2-of-16) from three-point range.  They were just 6-of-22 in the second half.  Harding finished 18-of-60 (30.0 percent) overall and 6-of-18 (33.3 percent) from three-point range.

Harding out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 43-35, including a commanding 20-10 edge in offensive boards to go with a 17-14 advantage in turnovers forced.

The Lady Bucs hit the road Thursday night as they visit No. 4 Delta State, who moved back into a first-place tie after winning 68-58 over No. 2 Arkansas Tech tonight, their 59th-straight home win.  The Lady Bucs' next home game is Saturday at 2 p.m. against Southern Arkansas.
