Lady Bucs Outlast Lions in Five

Hailey Gillis led the Lady Bucs with 16 kills as they defeated North Alabama in five sets Tuesday night to move into a tie for second place in the GSC.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs moved into a tie for second place in the Gulf South Conference with a dramatic five-set win over North Alabama Tuesday night at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (20-6, 6-2 GSC) jumped out to a quick 6-1 lead and held on for a 25-22 win in the first set before the Lions (17-5, 6-2) answered with a 25-20 win in the second set.  The Lady Bucs pulled away from an 11-8 lead to take a 20-10 lead on their way to a 25-17 win in the third set, but UNA controlled the fourth set throughout to win 25-16.  In the decisive fifth set, the Lions scored the first point, but the Lady Bucs scored the next five to take the lead for good, holding on to win 15-12.

Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 16 kills and a .316 hitting percentage, while Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) pounded 15 kills.  Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) logged a team-high 14 digs, followed by Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) with 11 and Lauren South (Bartlett, Tenn./Bartlett HS) with 10.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 45 assists with four kills, two blocks, and an ace.

Natalie Marsh paced UNA with 16 kills, and Lauren Greenhill collected a match-best 16 digs.  Hope Rayburn had 36 assists.

The win over UNA was the Lady Bucs' first since 1993, snapping a streak of 13 straight losses to the Lions, and it moves the Lady Bucs into a tie with UNA for second place in the GSC at 6-2.

The Lady Bucs visit first-place West Florida Friday night before visiting New Orleans Saturday afternoon.
