Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs recorded a season-high 15 aces in a three-set win over West Georgia as they remained in the hunt for the No. 2 seed in next month's Gulf South Conference Tournament.
After most of the first set was back-and-forth, the Lady Bucs (22-7, 8-3 GSC) scored nine straight points with
Kaitlin Keathley (Henderson, Nev./Silverado HS) serving, including three of Keathley's career-high seven aces. The run extended a 15-13 lead to 24-13, and the Lady Bucs won the set 25-14. They jumped out to a 12-3 lead in the second set and held on to win 25-20, but the Wolves (8-20, 2-9) would lead for most of the third set, taking a 12-7 lead early and holding the lead as late as 19-18 before the Lady Bucs scored seven of the last nine points to win 25-21.
Keathley's seven aces rank fourth in school history for a match, a mark last reached by CBU assistant coach Michelle Hein against West Alabama in 2009. The team total of 15 aces ranks seventh in school history, the Lady Bucs' most since 17 aces against Shaw in 2007. Outside hitters
Kelly Nolan (St. Louis, Mo./Rosati-Kain HS) and
Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) excelled for the Lady Bucs, with Nolan recording 12 kills and a career-high .545 hitting percentage on the eve of her Senior Day, while Kurtz had 10 kills and hit .562.
Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) collected 36 assists and three aces, and
Corinne Doder (St. Louis, Mo./Cor Jesu Academy) posted a match-best 12 digs.
Mary K Krueger led the Wolves with seven kills. Amanda Miller had 14 assists, and Emily Reul recorded a match-best six blocks.
The Lady Bucs return to action tomorrow at 1 p.m. when they host Valdosta State in their final home conference match of the season. Nolan and
Logan Westphal (Herndon, Va./Herndon HS) will be honored in Senior Day ceremonies before the match.
