CBU's Lashaunda Spurgeon Earns Prestigious Invitation to National WeCOACH Academy

Christian Brothers University volleyball continues to gain national recognition, as its head coach has been selected for one of the most exclusive leadership opportunities in collegiate athletics.

Lashaunda Spurgeon has officially been accepted into the WeCOACH-NCAA Women Coaches Academy, Class #56, a highly selective program that invites only top women coaches from across the country. The academy, scheduled for May 18–20, 2026, in Denver, is widely regarded as one of the premier development experiences for collegiate coaches.

A National Honor Among Elite Company

Selection into the academy is competitive and reserved for coaches who have demonstrated strong leadership, impact, and potential within their programs. Acceptance alone places Coach Spurgeon among an elite group of rising and established leaders in women's athletics.

Adding to the honor, the CBU coach was awarded a full scholarship valued at $2,000, covering tuition, lodging, meals, and travel assistance. The scholarship support reflects both the strength of the applicant pool and the confidence in her continued growth as a leader in the sport.

Investing in Leadership and Growth

The Women Coaches Academy focuses on leadership development, career advancement, and building a network of influential coaches across the NCAA landscape. Participants engage in intensive sessions centered on communication, program building, and navigating the challenges unique to women in coaching.

For Christian Brothers, this opportunity represents more than individual recognition. It brings valuable knowledge and perspective back to the program, directly benefiting student-athletes and the broader athletic department.

Building the Future of CBU Volleyball

This milestone highlights the upward trajectory of the CBU volleyball program and its leadership. Competing among the nation's top coaches, Coach Spurgeon will gain tools and connections that can further elevate the program's success both on and off the court.

As she prepares to represent Christian Brothers on a national stage in Denver, this recognition shows that the Bucs are competing and developing leaders at the highest level of collegiate athletics.
