MEMPHIS, Tenn. – Christian Brothers University Women's Volleyball has once again demonstrated excellence both in the classroom and on the court, earning the 2026 American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Team Academic Award.

The prestigious honor recognizes volleyball programs that maintain a year-long team grade-point average of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale. This year, 1,432 collegiate and high school volleyball teams from across the country received the distinction, highlighting the continued commitment of student-athletes to academic success.

"It comes as no surprise to see our sport have more than 1,400 teams earn the AVCA Team Academic Award again this season," said AVCA CEO Jaime Gordon. "We are grateful for the dedication of the coaches and players who make both classroom and on-court success the lifeblood of their programs."

The award adds another accomplishment to a memorable season for the Lady Buccaneers under Head Coach Lashaunda Spurgeon. On the court, CBU continued to build momentum with a competitive campaign that featured an All-Gulf South Conference performer while finishing just two matches shy of a Gulf South Conference Championship appearance. Off the court, the team's commitment to academic excellence was equally impressive, with numerous student-athletes earning Honor Roll recognition, reflecting the program's emphasis on success beyond volleyball.

For Christian Brothers University Volleyball, the AVCA Team Academic Award serves as another reminder that success is measured not only by wins and losses but also by the dedication shown in the classroom. The Lady Buccaneers continue to embody that standard, preparing to compete for championships while developing leaders who excel long after their playing careers come to an end.
