Lady Bucs Put Away Dragons Late 67-56

Breanna Ridgell scored 15 points in the Lady Bucs' 67-56 win over Lane Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
Box Score MEMPHIS—After scuffling through much of the game, the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used a 19-1 run to pull away to a 67-56 win over Lane Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The first 30 minutes of the game saw four ties and six lead changes, with the Lady Dragons (0-1) taking a 45-41 lead on a pair of Dawnieka Green free throws with 9:41 remaining.  Freshman Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) put the Lady Bucs (1-2) on her back to deliver the win.  She sparked the 19-1 run with a jumper in the lane to pull the Lady Bucs within two.  A three-point play and a fastbreak layup extended the lead to 51-45.  Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) put the exclamation point on the run when she knocked down a triple from the left wing to give the Lady Bucs a 60-46 lead with 4:01 remaining, and Lane never came closer than 10 points again.  The run was part of a stretch where the Lady Bucs held Lane without a basket for 7:57.

Green posted team-highs of 19 points, eight rebounds, and four steals, while Ridgell and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) scored 15 each.  Ellis added eight rebounds and two blocks.

Crystal Rayford led Lane with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Angel Hornsburger had eight assists, six steals, and six rebounds.

The Lady Bucs shot 35.7 percent (25-of-70) from the floor to the Lady Dragons' 32.3 percent (21-of-65).  CBU out-rebounded Lane 52-43, including a 23-16 edge in offensive boards.  The Lady Bucs forced 20 turnovers while committing 19.

The Lady Bucs return to action Tuesday night when they visit last year's GSC and South Regional champion Arkansas Tech at 5:30 p.m.  Their next home game is also against Arkansas Tech Nov. 29 at 5 p.m.
