Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs held Freed-Hardeman to 28.4 percent from the floor, but the NAIA's No. 3 team dominated both rebounding and turnovers on their way to a 55-39 win Friday at Canale Arena.
The Lions (10-2) closed the first half on a 12-0 run as they pulled away to a 31-15 lead after the Lady Bucs (2-8) had pulled within a 19-15 margin on two
Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) free throws with 6:49 remaining in the half. After FHU stretched its lead to 37-19, the Lady Bucs began to answer.
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) sparked the comeback with a three-pointer, and baskets from
Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS),
Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS), and
Amber Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) extended the run to 9-0 and cut the margin to 37-28 with 12:20 remaining. But after eight straight scoreless possessions, the Lady Lions finally answered with a Brittany Montgomery triple with 11:47 remaining, and the Lady Bucs could never come closer than 10 points again.
Ellis led the Lady Bucs with 14 points to go with eight rebounds and three blocks. Pugh was the Lady Bucs' second-leading scorer with six, and she added four steals and three blocks, while Williams grabbed a team-high nine boards.
Maria Bagwell led FHU with 12 points, 12 rebounds, and three steals, with eight of her 12 rebounds coming on the offensive end. Hannah Parsley added 10 points.
FHU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 52-32, with a commanding 31-10 edge in offensive rebounds, and they forced 21 CBU turnovers while committing 14. FHU held a 14-7 edge in second-chance points and a 19-7 edge in points off turnovers.
The Lady Bucs shot 34.8 percent (16-of-46) from the floor to the Lady Lions' 28.4 percent (21-of-74) overall.
The Lady Bucs wrap up their 2011 schedule tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Blue Mountain.
