Lady Bucs Outlast Lady Toppers 67-61

Breanna Ridgell scored a career-high 24 points to lead the Lady Bucs to a 67-61 win over Blue Mountain Saturday.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Freshman guard Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn., White Station HS) scored 17 of her career-high 24 points in the second half  to lead the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a 67-61 win over visiting Blue Mountain Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

For the first 30 minutes, the game was back-and-forth throughout, with nine ties and 16 lead changes, with neither team building a lead of more than six points.  Blue Mountain took its last lead on a Brandy Walls triple with 12:43 remaining, and a Kati Prince free throw pushed the lead to 52-50 with 11:29 remaining. 

From there, Ridgell took over.  First, she put the Lady Bucs (3-8) in front for good with a three-point play on the fastbreak after rebounding a shot blocked by Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS).  Another fastbreak layup and a three-pointer pushed the lead to 58-52, and a fastbreak layup by Ty Harris (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) gave the Lady Bucs their biggest lead of the day at 60-52 with 7:31 remaining after Ridgell blocked a corner three-pointer.

Ridgell was 9-of-14 overall, 2-of-3 at the free throw line, and 4-of-6 at the charity stripe as she poured in 24 in 32 minutes.  Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) scored 10 each, with Ellis grabbing nine rebounds.

Amber Johnson led Blue Mountain with 11 points, and Prince added 10 points, 10 rebounds, and three steals.

The Lady Bucs shot 40 percent (26-of-65) overall, but they held the Lady Toppers to 31.8 percent (21-of-66).  BMC out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 48-43, including an 18-15 edge in offensive boards, but the Lady Bucs forced 19 turnovers while committing 15.

The Lady Bucs wrap up their non-conference schedule wtih a trip to Ouachita Baptist Jan. 2 at noon.  Their next home game is set for Thursday, Jan. 12, at 5 p.m. against West Alabama.
