Lady Bucs Run Out of Gas Against HSU

Briley Milfeld scored 11 points in the Lady Bucs' 72-60 loss to Henderson State.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Henderson State out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 27-7 over the final eight minutes to hand the Lady Bucs a 72-60 defeat and spoil a strong Homecoming effort.

Playing with just six players due to a rash of injuries, the Lady Bucs (8-13, 1-8 GSC West) nonetheless led for most of the game after building an 18-7 lead early.  A Briley Milfeld (Farmington, Mo./Farmington HS) three pushed the lead to 48-36 with 15:38 remaining, but HSU (12-9, 3-6) began their comeback then, going on a 7-0 burst to cut the lead back to 48-43.

Another Milfeld three put the Lady Bucs up 53-45 with 8:38 to play, but HSU went on a 24-3 run over the next seven and a half minutes to take the lead for good.  Jazmine Ellis scored 14 straight points in just over three minutes during the heart of the run, helping her post a game-high 25.

Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) led teh Lady Bucs with 15 points and five assists.  Casey Gregory (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) added her second consecutive double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, and Milfeld added 11.

Malorie Marshall added 14 for the Lady Reddies.

The Lady Bucs shot 40 percent (20-of-50) from the floor, including 36 percent (9-of-25) from three-point range.  HSU was 43.9 percent (25-of-57) overall.  The Lady Bucs out-rebounded HSU 39-31, but they committed 20 turnovers while forcing 13.

The Lady Bucs hit the road Monday night at 5:30 p.m. to visit No. 5 Arkansas Tech in the makeup game from Thursday's postponement.  They come home Thursday night at 5 p.m. to face Ouachita Baptist.
