Lady Bucs' Comeback Runs Out of Time at HU

Normanique Johnson logged game-highs of 17 points and five assists, but the Lady Bucs lost 50-44 at Harding Saturday night.
Box Score SEARCY, Ark.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs whittled a 17-point second-half deficit to four points in the final seconds, but they fell 50-44 at Harding Saturday night.

The Lady Bisons (17-7, 8-4 GSC West) scored the game's first seven points and never trailed, as they began to pull away late in the first half, when a 13-2 run capped by a Danielle Reiher layup put them in front 30-15 with 2:40 remaining.

Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) scored the final three points of the first half and followed with the first five of the second half to cut the deficit to 30-23 with 17:57 remaining, but three straight triples from Brittany Gottsponer, Reiher, and Bailey St. Clair lifted Harding to a 42-25 lead with 14:09 remaining.

The Lady Bucs (8-16, 1-11) cut into the lead quickly as Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) scored five straight points, followed by a Briley Milfeld (Farmington, Mo./Farmington HS) three to close within 42-33 with 11:36 remaining.  Four Johnson free throws sandwiching a Marissa Stewart (Atlanta, Ga./Arlington Christian HS) layup brought the Lady Bisons' lead down to 44-39 with 4:16 remaining.

The Lady Bucs cut the lead to 47-43 with 37 seconds remaining when Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) made a pair of free throws, but Harding made three of four free throws and held the Lady Bucs to one free throw to hold on for the victory.

Johnson posted game-highs of 17 points and five assists before fouling out with 32 seconds remaining.  Green added 11, while Casey Gregory (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) set a career-high with 13 rebounds.

Reiher and Sierra Rollins scored 11 each to lead the Lady Bisons.

The Lady Bucs shot just 30 percent (12-of-40) for the game, including just 22.2 percent (6-of-27) from three-point range.  Harding was 38.6 percent (17-of-44) overall and 42.9 percent (6-of-14) from beyond the arc.  The Lady Bucs shot 73.7 percent (14-of-19) from the free throw line to Harding's 52.6 percent (10-of-19).

The Lady Bucs out-rebounded Harding 32-31, but they committed 15 turnovers while forcing 14.

The Lady Bucs celebrate senior night Thursday night when they host No. 3 Delta State at 5 p.m.  They wrap up their 2010-11 season next Saturday at 5:30 p.m. when they visit Southern Arkansas.
