No. 5 DSU Pulls Away From Lady Bucs 66-40

The Lady Bucs honored their three seniors before losing 66-40 to No. 5 Delta State Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—No. 5 Delta State held the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to 26.1 percent from the floor as they cruised to a 66-40 win over the Lady Bucs Thursday night at Canale Arena.

The Lady Statesmen (23-2, 11-2 GSC West) scored the game's first eight points and appeared poised to pull away quickly, but the Lady Bucs (8-17, 1-12) used three-pointers from Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS), Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS), and Marissa Stewart (Atlanta, Ga./Arlington Christian HS) to close within 11-9 with 11:03 remaining in the first half.

Later in the half, an Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS) three cut the margin to 20-16 with 3:24 remaining, but DSU put it out of reach quickly from there, going on an 18-2 run bridging the halftime gap where all 18 points came on layups.  The Lady Bucs never came closer than 14 points again.

Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) and Normanique Johnson (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) led the Lady Bucs with 11 points each.

DSU All-America forward Veronica Walker posted game-highs of 22 points, 12 rebounds, and two blocks.

The Lady Bucs hit the road to visit Southern Arkansas Saturday night at 5:30 p.m. to wrap up the 2010-11 season.
