Box Score VALDOSTA, Ga.—Host Valdosta State outscored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 19-4 over the final 13 minutes of the first half as they pulled away en route to a 57-42 win Saturday night in Gulf South Conference action.
The Lady Blazers (11-2, 2-0 GSC) used the 19-4 burst to blow open what had been a single-digit game, extending their lead to 33-12 on an Amber Bond fastbreak layup as time expired in the first half. The Lady Bucs (3-11, 0-2) trimmed the lead to 12 points in the final minutes of the game but could come no closer.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) and
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) led the Lady Bucs with eight points each, and
Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored seven.
Sczeny Hartry and Kourtnee Williams scored 11 each for the Lady Blazers, and Brittany Ferguson scored 10 with 10 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs shot 35 percent (14-of-40) for the game while limiting VSU to 36.7 percent (22-of-60). VSU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 37-31, including a 19-10 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 22 CBU turnovers while committing 12.
The Lady Bucs come home Thursday night at 5 p.m. to face West Alabama.
