Union Edges Lady Bucs 2-1

Amanda Smith's free kick in the 28th minute led to an Alex Bickenbach goal, but the Lady Bucs dropped a 2-1 decision to Union Sunday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—Visiting Union scored once in each half to claim a 2-1 Gulf South Conference victory over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Sunday afternoon at Signaigo Field.

The Lady Bulldogs (6-6-2, 1-4-2 GSC) struck first in the 24th minute, when Dionna Linn finished off a throughball from Stefanie King.  The Lady Bucs (5-8, 1-6) answered in the 28th minute as Alex Bickenbach (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored from the near post off a perfectly served free kick from Amanda Smith (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS).

The score remained level until the 69th minute, when King put Union ahead for good as she curled a shot from the right side into the top of the net.  The Lady Bucs had several strong chances in the final minutes, especially a penalty kick in the 85th minute, but the penalty flew over the bar and they were unable to find the net for an equalizer.

The Lady Bucs out-shot Union 15-6 for the game, including a 6-4 edge in shots on goal, but Union goalkeeper Emily Waggoner made five saves to give the Bulldogs the victory.

The Lady Bucs return to action Wednesday night at 6 p.m. as they host North Alabama.
