Lady Bucs, Lady Statesmen Battle to 1-1 Draw

Carmen Manes scored the equalizer in the Lady Bucs' 1-1 tie at Delta State Sundyay afternoon.
Box Score CLEVELAND, Miss.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-shot host Delta State 25-18, including a 14-5 lead in shots on goal, but they battled to a 1-1 tie in double-overtime Sunday afternoon.

The Lady Statesmen (3-10-2, 2-5-1 GSC) struck first just under five minutes in as Payten Pearson scored unassisted on a shot from nine yards away.  Carmen Manes (Memphis, Tenn./St. Agnes Academy) equalized for the Lady Bucs (5-9-1, 1-7-1) in the 38th minute as she scored off a cross from Kristen Guidry (Lafayette, La./St. Thomas More HS).

From there, neither side could find the net again.  The Lady Bucs out-shot DSU 8-3 in the overtimes, putting six of their eight shots on target, but DSU goalkeeper Kelsey Elling stopped them all on her way to a 12-save effort.

The Lady Bucs conclude their season with a pair of nonconference games next week.  They host Trevecca Nazarene Wednesday night at 5 p.m. before wrapping up 2012 Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they visit Bethel.
