Lady Bucs Outlast UAH in Five

Hannah Kurtz posted a match-best 17 kills to lead the Lady Bucs to a five-set win at Alabama-Huntsville Friday night.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs clinched sole possession of second place in the Gulf South Conference with a five-set win at Alabama-Huntsville Friday night.

The Lady Bucs (18-9, 11-3 GSC) looked the part in the first set, jumping out to a 16-3 lead as they cruised to a 25-10 win in the set.  UAH (10-20, 4-11) turned the tables in the second set, taking a 9-4 lead early on their way to a 25-18 win.  In the third set, UAH finished strong to win 25-14 after leading just 13-11, but the Lady Bucs answered in the fourth set.  After a 5-4 lead early, the Lady Bucs exploded for 16 of the next 21 points to take a 21-9 lead, eventually winning 25-14 to force a fifth set.  The fifth set was nip-and-tuck in the beginning, but the Lady Bucs took control with three straight points after a 6-6 tie and then scored the final four points to win the set 15-9.

Hannah Kurtz (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) led the Lady Bucs with 17 kills, while Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) had 12.  Hailey Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) added 12 digs to her 11 kills, and Kristina Headrick (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) notched a match-best 18 digs.  Kelsey Miles (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) dished out 42 assists to go with her 14 digs.

Haley Snyder paced the Chargers with 11 kills, and Kelly Wilson had 20 assists.  Stacey Sargent collected 17 digs.

The Lady Bucs head further east tomorrow, visiting Rome, Ga., to face Shorter at 6 p.m.  They wrap up the regular season Sunday at noon at West Georgia.
