Lady Bucs' Comeback Runs Out of Time Against Harding

Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs whittled a nine-point deficit to a single point in the final minute Tuesday night against Harding, but the visiting Lady Bisons escaped with a 57-53 win in the Lady Bucs' final game of 2012.

The Lady Bisons (5-4) used a 17-7 run early in the second half to take a 39-30 lead on a Kristen Celsor layup with 9:11 remaining, answering after the Lady Bucs (3-5) had taken the lead on a Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) three-point play.  The Lady Bucs steadily chipped away at the deficit, eventually cutting the deficit to 54-53 after Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn./East HS) made one of two free throws with 32.1 seconds remaining. 

After Harding made one of two free throws, the Lady Bucs missed a shot at a go-ahead three-pointer and the Lady Bisons made a pair of free throws with one second remaining to set the final margin.

Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) paced the Lady Bucs with 17 points, followed by 12 from Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) and 11 by Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy)

Celsor logged game-highs of 20 points and 11 rebounds for the Lady Bisons.  Shana Holmes scored 19, and Montana Lewis scored 10 with 11 rebounds.

Harding shot 34.7 percent (17-of-49) for the game to the Lady Bucs' 31.0 percent (18-of-58).  HU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 46-33, but the Lady Bucs forced 16 turnovers while committing nine.

The Lady Bucs return to action Thursday night, Jan. 3, in their GSC home opener against North Alabama.
