Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.—Host North Alabama used a pair of first-half runs to build a commanding 18-point halftime lead as they cruised to a 67-37 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night.
The Lions (13-11, 4-8 GSC) knocked down four threes during a 14-0 run in just over three minutes early in the game after the Lady Bucs (5-19, 2-10) had scored the game's first basket. After the Lady Bucs had cut the deficit back to 28-22 on a pair of
Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) free throws with 4:33 remaining in the first half, UNA went on a 19-0 run that carried over into the second half, capped by a Dana Jackson fastbreak layup that gave the Lions a 47-22 lead with 18:29 remaining. The Lady Bucs never came closer than 21 points again.
Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) led the Lady Bucs with nine points, while Ellis and
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) added seven points each.
Jessi Smith led the Lions with 18 points, and Jackson scored 11.
The Lady Bucs shot just 29.4 percent (15-of-51) for the game, including 12.5 percent (1-of-8) from three-point range. UNA was 39.3 percent (24-of-61) overall and 47.8 percent (11-of-23) from three-point range. UNA out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 43-34, including a 15-10 edge in offensive boards, and the Lady Bucs committed 16 turnovers while forcing 10.
The Lady Bucs come home Sunday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they celebrate Senior Day against Alabama-Huntsville.
