Lady Chargers Hold Off Lady Bucs' Comeback, 80-72

Ty Harris scored a season-high 11 points in the Lady Bucs' 80-72 loss to Alabama-Huntsville Sunday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs used a 16-3 run over the final four and a half minutes to put a scare into first-place Alabama-Huntsville, but the Lady Chargers held on for an 80-72 win Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

The Lady Chargers (20-4, 11-2 GSC) used a 12-2 run early in the first half to open a 24-11 lead on a Chelsi Bryant three-pointer with 12:15 remaining in the half.  The Lady Bucs (5-20, 2-11) never came closer than six points again.  In the second half, UAH eventually stretched its lead to 76-56 on a fastbreak layup by Francheska Nimes with 4:41 to play.

From there, the Lady Bucs woke up.  First, Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored on a fastbreak layup.  They made seven of eight free throws, then McKay knocked down another jumper with 2:08 remaining to trim the margin to 78-67.  She sank another basket with 1:48 remaining to pull the Lady Bucs within single-digits again at 79-70, and two Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) free throws ended the run with the Lady Bucs behind just 79-70.  After the Lady Bucs forced a missed shot with 40 seconds remaining, UAH grabbed the offensive rebound, and the UAH guard Jordan Smith made one free throw to set the final margin.

Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS), Ridgell, and McKay scored 13 each to lead the Lady Bucs, whose 72 points marked a season high.  Ty Harris (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 11, and Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) celebrated her Senior Day with 10 points, nine rebounds, and four blocks.

Jasmine Hammon led the Lady Chargers with 29 points to go with nine rebounds.  Morgan Duncan scored 20, and Bailee Robinson added 11.

The Lady Bucs shot 38.7 percent (24-of-62) from the floor and 77.4 percent (24-of-31) from the free throw line.  UAH was 41.0 percent (25-of-61) for the game and 81.5 percent (22-of-27) from the charity stripe.  UAH out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 39-38, but the Lady Bucs held a 16-13 edge in offensive rebounds.  The Lady Bucs committed 19 turnovers while forcing 18.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the regular season Saturday at 4 p.m. when they visit Delta State.  The following game will be Thursday, March 1, at the GSC Tournament in Niceville, Fla.  Discounted all-tournament passes are on sale in the CBU athletics office for $20 for adults and $10 for students.
