Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs held visiting Valdosta State to 38.6 percent shooting, but the Lady Blazers used a commanding rebounding advantage to claim a 62-44 win Saturday afternoon to spoil Homecoming for the Lady Bucs.
The Lady Blazers (16-5, 6-3 GSC) scored the game's first seven points and never trailed. They used a 13-2 run late in the first half to open up a 29-13 lead on a Brooke Satterfield layup with 1:29 remaining, and the Lady Bucs (5-16, 2-7) never came closer than 11 points again.
Jasmine Ellis (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS),
Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS), and #Sarah Combs led the Lady Bucs with nine points each, with Ellis adding three blocks and five rebounds, both team-highs.
Bena Hanyard led the Lady Blazers with 14 points. Sczeny Hartry scored 13, and Brittany Ferguson added 12.
The Lady Bucs shot 41.0 percent (16-of-39) to the Lady Blazers' 38.6 percent (22-of-57), but VSU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 39-19, including a 17-2 advantage in offensive boards.
The Lady Bucs finish the regular season with four of their last five games on the road, beginning Thursday night at 5:30 p.m. when they visit West Alabama. Their final home game is set for Sunday afternoon, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. against Alabama-Huntsville.
