Box Score MEMPHIS—Christian Brothers University freshman forward
Mariana Tonelli (Belo Horizonte, Brazil, American School) made a big impression in her college debut Thursday night, scoring both goals in the Lady Bucs' 2-0 win over Harding in the season opener for both schools.
Tonelli put the Lady Bucs (1-0) on the board quickly, scoring the game's first goal just 3:03 into the game. She dribbled across the top of the box and fired a shot into the lower right corner of the net past Harding (0-1) keeper Danielle Nonaka.
Tonelli tacked on another goal in the opening minutes of the second half. Just 1:30 into the second half, she scored on a free kick from the right corner of the field, again putting it into the bottom right corner.
Sophomore goalkeeper
Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) made the two goals hold up as she made three saves to earn the shutout. The Lady Bucs out-shot Harding 17-6 for the game, including an 8-3 edge in shots on goal.
The Lady Bucs hit the road for Florence, Ala., where they will face Tennessee Wesleyan Sunday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. Their next home game will be the GSC opener Friday night, Sept. 7, against West Georgia.
