Lady Chargers Pull Away From Lady Bucs 79-60

Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.—Host Alabama-Huntsville out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 24-5 over the final 10:06 to claim a 79-60 win over the Lady Bucs Thursday night.

The Lady Bucs (3-9, 0-4 GSC) led for most of the first half after opening the game with a 17-4 run capped by a Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) triple with 15:51 remaining in the half.  UAH (7-8, 4-1) steadily chipped away at the lead, taking a 28-27 lead on an Alysse Bishop three-point play with 6:19 remaining in the half.  

The next 14 minutes would be back-and-forth, with neither team leading by more than three points.  The game featured nine lead changes and eight ties, the final one coming after Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) sank a pair of free throws with 10:21 remaining to tie the game at 55.  From there, however, UAH went on the decisive 24-5 run to seal the game.

Ridgell scored a team-high 25 to lead the Lady Bucs, adding five rebounds, four steals, and three assists.  Adrienne McKay (Olive Branch, Miss./Briarcrest Christian HS) scored nine, and Green and Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) added eight each.

Jasmine Hammon paced the Lady Chargers with 28 points and seven steals.  Jordan Smith scored 15, while Halle Jarnagin added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

The Lady Bucs committed a season-high 33 turnovers in the game while forcing 16, giving UAH a 33-13 edge in points off turnovers.  The Lady Bucs shot 36.8 percent (21-of-57) for the game to UAH’s 33.3 percent (23-of-69).  CBU out-rebounded the Lady Chargers 46-44, but UAH grabbed 17 offensive boards to the Lady Bucs’ 12.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m. when they visit Shorter.  Their next home game is set for Thursday, Jan. 17, at 5 p.m. against West Georgia.
