Cold Second Half Sinks Lady Bucs 56-43

Box Score ROME, Ga.—Host Shorter used a 17-2 run early in the second half to seize control in a 56-43 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon in Gulf South Conference play.

The Lady Bucs (3-10, 0-5 GSC) led for most of the first half after a commanding 16-3 edge in turnovers in the half, taking a 20-19 lead into the intermission.  A Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) jumper opened the second-half scoring, but Shorter (7-6, 3-3) answered with the decisive run.

Ieshia Alexander sparked the run with a free throw, and by the time the run ended with a Lindsey Crawford jumper, the Lady Hawks led 36-24 with 12:27 remaining.  The Lady Bucs cut the margin to five points twice, but they could come no closer in the final minutes.

Ridgell scored a game-high 14 to lead the Lady Bucs, while Amber Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) added eight.

Lynette Harris led the Lady Hawks with 13 points, and Milena Samson tacked on 12.

The Lady Bucs shot 30 percent (18-of-60) for the game, including 15 percent (3-of-20) from three-point range, while Shorter was 43.8 percent (21-of-48) overall.  Shorter out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 50-26, including a 13-8 edge in offensive rebounds, but the Lady Bucs forced 24 turnovers while committing nine.

The Lady Bucs come home Thursday night at 5 p.m. as they host West Georgia.
