Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs cut a nine-point second half lead to one point two times in the final minutes, but visiting West Georgia escaped Canale Arena with a 59-56 win Thursday night.
The first half featured two ties and six lead changes, but the Wolves (10-4, 4-2 GSC) used a 12-5 burst at the beginning of the second half to take a 48-39 lead with 15:05 remaining. The Lady Bucs (3-11, 0-6) slowly chipped away at the lead, closing within a point at 55-54 on a
Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn./East HS) triple with 5:53 remaining. UWG's Brittney Johnson answered with a layup, but again the Lady Bucs cut the deficit to 57-56 on a
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) jumper with 1:12 remaining. Jerlisa Taylor scored again for the Wolves with 43 seconds remaining, and the Lady Bucs' final two shots both missed.
Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) scored a career-high 24 points for the Lady Bucs, adding six rebounds, two blocks, and two steals.
Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) added seven.
JaDechia Hill led the Wolves with 15 points, while Taylor Turgeon scored 12. Johnson tacked on 12 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
The Lady Bucs shot 34.6 percent (18-of-52) to the Wolves' 44.7 percent (21-of-47). UWG out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 34-30, but the Lady Bucs held an 11-9 edge in offensive rebounds and forced 16 turnovers while committing 11.
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. against West Alabama.
