Box Score PENSACOLA, Fla.—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs built a 19-point first-half lead Saturday afternoon at West Florida, but the host Argos came back to win 61-54 in overtime.
The Lady Bucs (5-12, 2-7 GSC) used a 29-9 run in the first half to open a 33-14 lead when
Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) buried a three-pointer with 2:37 remaining in the first half. Reeves scored 15 of her game-high 24 points in the first half, including 11 points during the run.
The Argos (5-12, 2-7) steadily chipped away at the CBU lead, taking a 51-50 lead on a Raquel Miller layup with 42 seconds remaining.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) put CBU back on top with a three-point play with 25 seconds remaining, but a pair of Jasmine Wigfall free throws with eight seconds remaining sent the game to overtime. The Argos scored six of their eight points in the extra frame from the free throw line, outscoring the Lady Bucs 8-1 to earn the win.
Reeves' 24 points matched her career-high, as she was 7-of-14 from the floor including 3-of-6 from three-point range. She went 7-of-8 at the free throw line, adding eight rebounds and three blocks in 38 minutes.
Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) added nine points, and
Taylor Pugh (Memphis, Tenn./Briarcrest Christian HS) hauled down a team-high 12 rebounds with four blocks.
Hanna Vette led the Argos with 20 points and 17 rebounds, while Wigfall scored 16.
The Lady Bucs held UWF to just 24.7 percent (18-of-73) from the floor, but CBU shot 29.7 percent (19-of-64). UWF out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 59-44, including a 28-12 edge in offensive rebounds, and each team committed 16 turnovers.
The Lady Bucs come home Saturday afternoon at 2:05 p.m. to take on Delta State to open the second half of the GSC schedule.
