Lions Top Cold Lady Bucs 62-49

Jessica Green scored a season-high 14 points in the Lady Bucs' 62-49 loss to North Alabama Thursday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS—The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs shot just 26.9 percent from the floor Thursday night in a 62-49 loss to North Alabama in their first home Gulf South Conference game of the season.

The Lady Bucs (3-6, 0-2 GSC) started strong, using a 17-4 first-half run to stake a 21-12 lead after a bucket by Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) with 6:17 remaining in the first half.  But the Lions (10-3, 3-0) answered with a 30-8 run, taking a 42-29 lead on a corner three by Abby Andrews with 13:12 remaining.

The Lady Bucs whittled the lead down to 50-45 with 8:22 remaining on back-to-back Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) layups and a Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) triple, but UNA outscored the Lady Bucs 12-4 the rest of the way to seal the victory.

Ridgell led the Lady Bucs with 16 points and three steals, while Green scored a season-high 14.  Reeves added a dozen.

Lauren Faris and Jennifer Towne scored 12 each to lead the Lions, while Sarah Bailey and Mekena Randle scored 10 each.  Randle also hauled in a game-high 14 rebounds.

The Lady Bucs were 18-of-67 from the floor for the game and just 20 percent (4-of-20) from three-point range.  UNA shot 42 percent (21-of-50) overall and held a 48-36 edge in rebounding.  The Lady Bucs grabbed 15 offensive boards to UNA's 12, and they forced 19 turnovers while committing 11.

The Lady Bucs return to the court Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Union in the first meeting between the two schools since 1996.
