Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs moved into third place in the Gulf South Conference with a 3-0 win over Shorter Sunday afternoon.
The Lady Bucs (10-2-2, 4-2-1 GSC) struck first in the 28th minute as
Alex Bickenbach (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored her third goal of the season. Bickenbach gathered a pass near the corner of the 18-yard box, dribbled past a pair of defenders, and fired a shot into the net for the only goal CBU would need.
Mariana Tonelli (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) doubled the lead in the 61st minute with an unassisted goal. She intercepted a clearance attempt near the top of the 18-yard box and chipped a shot over Shorter (5-10-0, 2-6-0) goalkeeper Haley Lademann for her fifth goal of the year. The Lady Bucs set the final margin in the 88th minute.
Sydney Piper (Germantown, Tenn./Houston HS) made a long run up the left sideline and sent a cross to
Carly Downing (Cordova, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) at the back post. Downing fired a quick shot into the net for her second goal.
The Lady Bucs out-shot the Lady Hawks 12-7, including an 8-1 edge in shots on goal.
Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) made one save to earn her fourth shutout of the season and the 14th of her career, tying Jennifer Simon (2010-13) for first place on CBU's career list. The win, Wade's 21st at CBU, moves her into third place in school history, four behind Simon and Libby Hake (2008-12) for first in school history.
The Lady Bucs hit the road Friday night at 5 p.m. as they visit West Florida. Their next home game is set for Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. against West Alabama.
