Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs jumped to an early lead and never trailed in a 68-50 win at LeMoyne-Owen Friday night in the season opener for both schools.
The Lady Bucs built an 18-point lead in the first half, leading 46-28 at halftime, and they led by as many as 24 points in the second half.
Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) led the Lady Bucs (1-0) with 20 points, five rebounds and four steals in 28 minutes.
Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) had 19 points, while freshmen
Emily Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) and
Erin Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Overton HS) scored eight each in their college debuts.
Latrice Sears led the Lady Magicians (0-1) with 19 points and eight rebounds. Ganasua Hall added 12 points and nine rebounds.
CBU shot 40.3 percent (25-of-62) for the game while holding the Lady Magicians to 30.8 percent (16-of-62). CBU held a 46-34 edge in rebounding, including a 14-7 lead in offensive boards. CBU forced 18 turnovers while committing 14, converting them to a 23-11 lead in points off turnovers, and CBU had a 22-0 edge in fast-break points.
The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host Lane.
