No. 12 Lady Statesmen Outlast Lady Bucs 61-53

Box Score MEMPHIS-No. 12 Delta State used a 15-0 run bridging the halftime break as they took control on their way to a 61-53 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

Freshman forward Madison Luckett (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) scored nine points during an 11-2 run that gave the Lady Bucs (4-3, 0-1 GSC) a 24-17 lead with 5:16 remaining in the first half. DSU (6-1, 1-0) scored the final 12 points of the first half to take a 31-26 lead, and Chelsey Rhodes knocked down a three-pointer to open the second half, capping the 15-0 burst and giving DSU a 34-26 lead.

The Lady Bucs used a 6-0 burst to cut the deficit to 48-47 on a Luckett layup, but DSU answered with a 9-1 run to extend the lead to 57-48 on a Kenisha Henry layup with 3:46 remaining, and the Lady Bucs never came closer than six in the final minutes.

Luckett scored a team-high 17 points with six rebounds and four blocks for the Lady Bucs, and Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) added 15 with four steals. Erin Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Overton HS) collected a career-high five steals.

Chelsey Rhodes led DSU with 22 points and six assists to go with six rebounds. Rhandi Ball had 11 points and nine rebounds, and Seneca Walton scored 10.

The Lady Bucs shot 32.2 percent (19-of-59) for the game to DSU's 45.7 percent (21-of-46). DSU out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 42-31, but they committed 27 turnovers to CBU's 16.

The Lady Bucs wrap up the calendar year with a pair of road games next week. They visit Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night at 5:30 p.m., and they visit West Alabama Saturday at 2 p.m. Their next home game is Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. as they host Shorter.
