UAH Out-Shoots Lady Bucs 88-76

Erica Burgess scored 22 points, but the Lady Bucs dropped an 88-76 decision at Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night.
Box Score HUNTSVILLE, Ala.-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs scored a season-high 76 points but couldn't keep up with the nation's highest-scoring team, losing 88-76 at Alabama-Huntsville Thursday night.

The Lady Chargers (7-1, 2-0 GSC) opened the game with a 10-2 run and built an 18-6 lead on a Shannon Steinert triple with 14:20 remaining in the first half, but the Lady Bucs answered with a run of their own. An Erin Wilson (Memphis, Tenn./Overton HS) layup sparked the rally, and by the time a Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) layup capped what became a 23-8 run, the Lady Bucs (4-4, 0-2) led 29-26 with 7:45 remaining in the half.

UAH answered with a 21-5 run to extend its lead to 47-34, and the Lady Bucs never led again. CBU used a 9-0 burst in the middle of the second half to pull within 64-60 on an Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) free throw, but UAH scored the next eight points and CBU never came closer than 10 points again.

Ridgell matched her career-high with 30 points, making 12-of-22 shots from the floor and all six free throws. She added 11 rebounds, three steals and three assists to her career-high scoring number. Burgess, returning to the court after missing three games due to injury, set a career-high of her own with 22 points to go with six assists and four steals in 31 minutes off the bench. Wilson added nine.

Jasmine Hammon led UAH with 30 points, 12 rebounds and four steals, and Jordan Smith scored 20. Steinert added eight with six steals.

The Lady Bucs shot 50 percent (31-of-62) from the floor to the Lady Chargers' 38.1 percent (32-of-84). UAH held a 47-45 edge on the boards, including a 20-8 lead in offensive boards, and they forced 29 CBU turnovers while committing 18.

The Lady Bucs return to action Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they visit West Alabama. Their next home game is Saturday, Jan. 4, at 2 p.m. as they host Shorter.
