Lady Bucs Knock Off Lady Hawks 47-39

Samantha Reeves scored 14 points in the Lady Bucs' 47-39 win over Shorter Saturday afternoon.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs out-scored visiting Shorter 28-11 over the final 17 minutes to claim a 47-39 win Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.

Shorter (13-10, 8-7 GSC) used a 12-0 run bridging the halftime break to take a 28-19 lead, their biggest of the day, on a pair of Karisma Boykin free throws with 17:47 remaining.  The Lady Bucs' comeback was slow but steady, pulling within a 31-28 deficit on a pair of Amber Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) free throws with 9:55 remaining.  Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) sank two free throws with 7:06 remaining to trim the lead to 35-34, and a Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) triple with 4:49 remaining knotted the game at 37.

After Shorter took a 39-37 lead on a basket with 4:27 remaining, the Lady Bucs (6-16, 3-11) shut them out for the rest of the game, outscoring them 10-0.  A Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) fastbreak layup gave the Lady Bucs a 41-39 edge with 1:20 remaining, their first lead since late in the first half.  CBU was 6-of-8 at the free throw line in the final minute to seal the victory.

Reeves and Ridgell scored 14 each for the Lady Bucs, with Ridgell grabbing a career-high 12 rebounds.  Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn./East HS) added eight points.

Shelby Farrer scored eight points with nine rebounds for the Lady Hawks, and Ieshia Alexander added seven.

Both teams struggled to score throughout, with the Lady Bucs shooting 24.5 percent (12-of-49) to Shorter's 24.6 percent (14-of-57).  The Lady Bucs shot 73.1 percent (19-of-26) from the free throw line, while Shorter was 66.7 percent (8-of-12).  CBU out-rebounded Shorter 46-40, with each team grabbing 15 offensive boards.  Shorter committed 12 turnovers to the Lady Bucs' 10.

The Lady Bucs make their final road trip of the regular season next week, visiting West Georgia Thursday night and West Alabama Saturday afternoon.  Their next home game is Thursday, Feb. 28, at 5:05 p.m. against Valdosta State.
