Wolves Outlast Lady Bucs 60-55

Breanna Ridgell scored 16 points in the Lady Bucs' 60-55 loss at West Georgia Thursday night.
Box Score CARROLLTON, Ga.-Host West Georgia out-scored the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs 7-1 over the final 74 seconds as they rallied for a 60-55 win in a back-and-forth game Thursday night.

The Wolves (15-8, 9-6 GSC) threatened to pull away late in the first half, using a 15-4 run to open up a 27-18 lead on a Brittany Johnson layup with 2:06 remaining in the first half.  The Lady Bucs (6-7, 3-12) answered with a 12-2 burst to take a 30-29 lead on an Ashley Winston (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) bucket with 16:42 remaining.

Neither team would build a lead of more than six points again, and the Lady Bucs used a Samantha Reeves (Somerville, Tenn./Fayette Academy) bucket to take a 54-53 lead with 1:31 remaining.  But from there, the Lady Bucs only scored one point on their final four possessions, and UWG used a Mone Peoples three with 1:14 remaining and four free throws in the final 14 seconds to seal the victory.

Reeves scored 16 points with 10 rebounds, three blocks, and a career-high five assists.  Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) also scored 16, adding two steals.

Peopls scored a game-high 22 points to lead the Wolves, and Johnson added 16 with eight rebounds.

The Lady Bucs shot 37.9 percent (22-of-58) to the Wolves' 38.3 percent (18-of-47).  UWG was 45 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range, while CBU shot just 9.1 percent (1-of-11).  The Lady Bucs out-rebounded UWG 41-28, including a 15-4 edge in offensive boards, and they forced 16 turnovers while committing 14.

The Lady Bucs play their final road game of the season Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. when they visit West Alabama.  Their next home game is set for Thursday night, Feb. 28, at 5:05 p.m. against Valdosta State.
