Lady Bucs Top UWF 71-63

The Lady Bucs celebrated Senior Day with a 71-63 win over West Florida Saturday afternoon at Canale Arena.
Box Score MEMPHIS-The Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs celebrated Senior Day on a high note Saturday afternoon with a 71-63 win over West Florida at Canale Arena.

The Lady Bucs (7-19, 4-14 GSC) went on a 19-6 run late in the first half to break open what had been a tie game. Jessica Green (Memphis, Tenn./Lausanne HS) hit back-to-back three-pointers to cap the run, giving the Lady Bucs a 36-23 lead in the final seconds of the first half. The Lady Argos (6-20, 3-15) came as close as three points on a Raquel Miller jumper with 3:53 remaining, but Candis Clear (Memphis, Tenn./East HS) buried a triple to extend the CBU lead back to six points and the Lady Bucs held on for the victory.

Breanna Ridgell (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) scored 26 points with 11 rebounds and three steals in 34 minutes as she came off the bench so CBU could start all four of its seniors. Green scored 16, including four three-pointers, and Clear also made four threes on her way to 14 points. Amber Williams (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS) hauled down 10 rebounds.

Hanna Vette led the Argos with 20 points. Jayme Druding scored 11, and Toynetta Johnson and Jasmine Wigfall added 10 each. Johnson added eight rebounds and four steals.

The Lady Bucs shot 36.8 percent (25-of-68) to the Argos' 40 percent (22-of-55). Each team grabbed 42 rebounds, with CBU holding a 20-16 edge in offensive rebounds, and the Lady Bucs forced 16 turnovers while committing 11.

With the win, the Lady Bucs locked up the No. 7 seed in next week's Raymond James Gulf South Conference Tournament at the Pete Hanna Center in Birmingham, Ala. The Lady Bucs will face second-seeded North Alabama Thursday afternoon at 2:30 p.m.

Prior to the game, the Lady Bucs honored four seniors: Clear, Green, Ty Harris (Memphis, Tenn./White Station HS), and Aramis Judson (Bristow, Va./Stonewall Jackson HS).
