Graham's Golden Goal Gives Lady Bucs 1-0 Win

Katelyn Graham scored the golden goal in the 102nd minute to give the Lady Bucs a 1-0 double-overtime win over West Georgia Saturday night.
Box Score MEMPHIS–Over the first 101 minutes of Saturday night's game between the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs and visiting West Georgia, CBU failed to convert numerous chances. But sophomore forward Katelyn Graham (Memphis, Tenn., St. Benedict HS) ended the frustration with a golden goal in the second overtime to give the Lady Bucs a 1-0 win in their GSC opener.

Graham's goal came on the Lady Bucs' 19th shot of the contest, to just four for the Wolves (1-6-0, 1-2-0 GSC). The Lady Bucs (4-0-1, 1-0-0) outshot them 11-1 in the first half and 6-3 in the second half, but they had nothing to show for it as UWG keeper Mary Laza made six saves and was helped by a team save when CBU's Mariana Tonelli (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) put a shot past her in the sixth minute.

Tonelli found her revenge in the second overtime, as she found Graham with a throughball, setting her up for a one-on-one chance against Laza. Graham chipped a shot over Laza, finding the net and giving the Lady Bucs their first GSC-opening win and their first four-game winning streak since 2010.

Graham now leads the GSC with five goals, and CBU goalkeeper Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) turned in a clean sheet, moving into a tie for first place in the GSC in shutouts with three. Wade also moved into a tie with Libby Hake (2010-13) for second place in career shutouts with 11, three behind the record set by Jennifer Simon (2000-02).

The Lady Bucs won't have long to celebrate the win, as they return to action Sunday at noon as they host Valdosta State, who sits in first place in the GSC with a 1-0-2 conference mark.
