Lions Outlast Lady Bucs in Four Sets

Brinsley Cooper hit .500 with 16 kills, but the Lady Bucs dropped a four-setter at North Alabama Tuesday night.
Box Score FLORENCE, Ala.-Host North Alabama hit .267 as a team to claim a four-set win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Tuesday night.

The Lions (3-8, 1-2 GSC) opened the match by pulling away for a 25-17 win in the first set, but the Lady Bucs (3-7, 1-1) answered with a 26-24 win, scoring the last three points in set two after trailing 24-23. The Lady Bucs' magic nearly continued in the third set, surviving set point at 24-23 and 25-24 before UNA claimed a 27-25 win to seize control of the match. UNA played the spoiler role in the fourth set, scoring the final eight points to win 25-21 after the Lady Bucs had led 21-17.

Alexis Gillis (Corpus Christi, Texas/Carroll HS) led the Lady Bucs with 17 kills and 14 digs, while Brinsley Cooper (Rossville, Ind./Rossville HS) hit .500 as she pounded 16 kills. Stephanie Korbakes (Palos Heights, Ill./Alan B. Shepard HS) added 11 kills. Jessica Reber (Byron, Ill./Byron HS) dished out 46 assists, and Brittany Toney (Rockledge, Fla./Rockledge HS) matched Gillis with 14 digs. Alison Welch (Olive Branch, Miss./Olive Branch HS) tacked on 11 digs.

Megan Gorey paced the Lions with 20 kills, followed by 12 from Victoria Quintanilla. Hope Rayburn had 39 assists, and Shantel Frederick led four Lions in double figures in digs with 16.

The Lady Bucs hit the road this weekend as they visit West Florida Friday night at 6 p.m. and West Alabama Saturday afternoon at 1 p.m.
