Box Score

MEMPHIS–Sophomore forward Katelyn Graham (Memphis, Tenn., St. Benedict HS) scored two first-half goals to lead the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs to a 3-1 win over visiting Young Harris Sunday at Signaigo Field.

Graham, who had one career goal prior to Sunday, opened the scoring in the 13th minute as she found the net on a long shot from the right side, curling it in over the goalkeeper's head to give the Lady Bucs (1-0-1) an early lead. She tacked on another goal 10 minutes later. Mariana Tonelli (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School) passed to Camilla Rodrigues (Belo Horizonte, Brazil/American School), who sent a cross to Graham at the back post. Graham's sliding shot found the net and the Lady Bucs took a 2-0 lead.

The Mountain Lions (1-1-0) cut the lead in half on a counterattack in the 64th minute as Whitney Thomas gathered a throughball from Ashleigh Scarpinato and scored the goal.

Alex Bickenbach (Memphis, Tenn./St. Benedict HS) put it out of reach in the 72nd minute, as she scored from the right side of the 18-yard box after a cross from Tonelli.

The Lady Bucs out-shot Young Harris 26-7 for the game, including a 9-2 edge in shots on goal. CBU goalkeeper Robyn Wade (Collierville, Tenn./Collierville HS) made one save to earn the victory, as well as numerous well-timed challenges to break up possible scoring chances.

The Lady Bucs hit the road next weekend, visiting Lyon Friday afternoon at 2 p.m. and visiting Harding Sunday afternoon at 1 p.m. Their GSC opener is Friday, Sept. 20, at home against West Georgia at 6 p.m.
