Box Score MEMPHIS-Visiting Union started the game with a 17-4 run and never looked back as they cruised to a 69-38 win over the Christian Brothers University Lady Bucs Thursday night at Canale Arena.
The Lady Bulldogs (10-3, 5-2 GSC) made three of their first five three-pointers as they opened a double-digit lead early, with three straight DeAnna Thompson buckets giving them a 17-4 lead with 11:28 remaining in the first half. The Lady Bucs (7-6, 3-4) whittled the lead back to 19-11 on an
Ashley Winston (Arlington, Tenn./Bolton HS) fastbreak layup with 8:17 remaining, but they came no closer and Union answered with another 16-4 run to push their lead to 20 points just before halftime. CBU never came closre than 16 points again.
Erica Burgess (Memphis, Tenn./Central HS) and
Ashley Schaefer (Cincinnati, Ohio/Sycamore HS) led the Lady Bucs with seven points each.
LaTesa McLaughlin led Union with 16 points, and Astrid Huttemann scored 15. Thompson added 12, while Amy Philamlee scored nine with nine assists.
The Lady Bucs shot a season-low 31 percent (13-of-42) for the game, including just 18.2 percent (2-of-11) from three-point range. Union was 45.3 percent (24-of-53) overall and 45 percent (9-of-20) from three-point range. Union out-rebounded the Lady Bucs 36-27, including 13-9 on the offensive boards, and they forced 21 CBU turnovers while committing 14.
The Lady Bucs look to snap their two-game skid Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. as they host North Alabama.
